Arya Samaj Marriage – Know Its Importance & Cost-Effectiveness

Arya Samaj marriages are quite simple in their process & procedure and the ceremonies themselves are mostly straightforward. People belonging to the Hindu religion and religions that come under the large umbrella of Hindus in India can perform Arya Samaj marriage. This marriage is a preference for couples whose one spouse practices Buddhism, Jainism, or Sikhism.

The Arya Samaj marriage is performed in an Arya Samaj temple in tune with the Vedic traditions. The chants which are said in the ceremony are conveyed to the bride and the groom in line with the Vedic principles.

The Types Of Marriage Registration:

Thera are two ways in which an Arya Samaj marriage can be registered. If both the spouses follow the same faith, both are Hindus, they can get it registered under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.

In case their beliefs differ, they can get their marriage registered under the Special Marriage Act, 1954.

Who All Can Undertake An Arya Samaj Marriage?

The age of the groom should be 21 years or above and the age of the bride should be 18 years or above.

Arya Samaj marriage can be performed by anyone who is a Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Sikh.

At the same time, anyone who is not a Muslim, Christian, Parsi or Jew can go for the Arya Samaj marriage.

Also, Arya Samaj allows inter-caste and inter-religious marriages provided none of the persons marrying is a Muslim, Christian, Parsi or Jew.

Suppose a non-Hindu couple wants to perform this marriage, Samaj permits them to perform this wedding after they convert to Hinduism through a process known as Shuddhi

Arya Samaj Registration : Its Six-step Procedure

  • Book an appointment with the officials at the sub-divisional magistrate’s office. This step may take around a fortnight’s time to get actualised. So, one should start  this procedure before the marriage.  
  • Fill in the registration form.
  • Submit all the required proofs and documents.
  • Also you need to submit two passport size photographs of the bride and the groom. There should also be a photograph of the marriage.
  • You may even get the marriage invitation card but that is optional.
  • See to it that you have two witnesses who have to be present there physically to sign. Besides, do not forget that a gazetted officer’s attestation is a must.
  • Finally, when you have filled in all the formalities, the magistrate’s office will give you the marriage certificate. The law acknowledges this marriage certificate.

What Are The Documents Required for Solemnisation?

  • There should be four copies each of coloured photographs of the bride and the groom.
  • There should be a proof of DOB and address proof of both the sides.
  • Two witnesses need to witness the wedding.
  • In the possibility of one of the spouse being a widow/widower, then the widow/ widower should submit the death certificate of his/her dead spouse.
  • In case either one of the spouse is a foreign citizen or he/she holds a foreign passport or has a foreign residential address, then the spouse will need to give the Certificate his/her present marital status / NOC from the respective Embassy and a Valid VISA.
